The Meriwether
A Summer of Painting and Travel
It has been quite some time since I’ve sat down to write a Meriwether. As the clock ticks towards the end of summer it is a time of reflection for the summer that has passed. This summer I covered some serious ground. From Abiquiu to Ireland I’ve gotten to widen my internal map and fill my sketchbook pages. In between travel, I converted an old writers office in my parents barn into a studio. I got to go to work each day barefoot with my dog Louie by my side. After a day of painting, Louie and I would go down and swim in the river. It was a picturesque Vermont summer. My painting techniques shifted this summer as I grew new skill with each piece I did. Below are my five favorite pieces from this summer. Enjoy, and let me know your thoughts on them.
“Quiet Summer” - 16 in. X 20 in.
“Marshall” - 20 in. X 16 in.
Bridge at Night - 18 in. x 22 in.
Flooded Sugarhouse - 12 in. X 16 in.
The Cricketers - 9 in. X 12 in.
I head into my junior year at Syracuse in a couple weeks, where I will be continuing to study painting. If you want to see what I’m currently working on and paintings as they come out follow my instagram: meriwethermeriwether. Thank you for reading!
Sincerely,
Jesse
